What is Okonomiyaki & Takoyaki?
Okonomiyaki is a Japanese pancake whose name translates to "whatever you want, fried." It is traditionally prepared with cabbage, meat or seafood and garnished with mayonnaise, takoyaki sauce and bonito flakes. Takoyaki, on the other hand, are small, round dough balls that are traditionally filled with octopus pieces and also served with spicy sauce and toppings.

🥞 Classic okonomiyaki with bacon & cabbage

Preparation:

  1. Mix 180 g Otafuku flour with 200 ml water and 1 egg.
  2. Fold in 150 g finely chopped white cabbage.
  3. Fry into a thick pancake in a pan with a little oil.
  4. Top with bacon, turn and fry again.
  5. Garnish with Japanese mayonnaise, takoyaki sauce and bonito flakes.

🐙 Takoyaki with octopus & spring onions

Preparation:

  1. Mix the flour mixture with water and egg (see packaging).
  2. Heat the takoyaki pan and fill each cavity with a little oil.
  3. Pour in the batter and add small pieces of octopus, spring onions and tempura crumbs.
  4. After about 1 minute, turn with a skewer and shape into round shapes.
  5. Fry until golden brown and serve with takoyaki sauce, mayonnaise and bonito flakes.
